Fatal fire in Durham

DURHAM Deputy Chief Dan Curia says firefighters received a call of a house fire near Shady Oaks Park around 7am on Sunday.

"We arrived three and a half minutes later and found a one story brick structure with flames coming out the windows," Oaks said.

The deputy says there was no immediate threat to neighboring homes, but the fire proved to be fatal for at least one of the six people who were inside at the time.

"There was one person who was fatally injured, one person transported to the hospital, I presume Duke, and I'm not sure if those injuries are life-threatening or not."

Authorities have not released any names or ages of the victims. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
