Suspect arrested in Cary murder

CARY Kenneth Lamont Taylor, 33, of Durham was arrested Thursday morning for the murder of Jibrael Menelik.

The Town of Cary says United States Marshal Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force in New York, New York took Taylor into custody in Mastic, NY.

Local officials are working in tandem with the State of New York for Taylor's extradition. Taylor will be taken to the Wake County Public Safety Center in Raleigh for processing.

A warrant was issued for Taylor's arrest on May 12 for the shooting death of Menelik, 28, of Apex.

Authorities say in the early hours of April 10, police officers responded to a shooting on Pony Club Circle in northwestern Cary. Upon arrival, officers found Menelik in the breezeway of the 700 building, shot but conscious.

Menelik was transported to Duke University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. This is Cary's first murder since 2008.
