2 Durham teens killed, 2 injured in Carteret Co. crash

DURHAM Eight people were involved in the wreck authorities say happened around 8:30 p.m. Saturday on Harkers Island Road.

Highway Patrol Troopers say 18-year-old Miles Moorman of Bahama and 18-year-old Brantley Pearce of Durham were killed when their car was hit by an SUV towing a boat.

Pearce recently graduated from Riverside High School. Two other teens involved in the accident are also from Durham and were students at Northern High School.

Troopers say Moorman was driving the teens down Harkers Island Road on Saturday night when he tried to make a turn and was hit nearly head on by a Chevy SUV carrying an 18 foot boat.

Moorman and Pearce died at the scene.

Authorities say teenagers Kristen Terry and Kim Frey were injured in the accident and taken to the hospital.

Family and friends are remembering the two teens killed in the crash.

"Probably one of the nicest people I have ever known, He'd do anything for you," Pearce's friend, Hunter Chapmon said." " He'd give you the shirt off his back if he didn't know you."

Troopers say the passengers in the Chevy SUV are expected to be ok. There were four people in the SUV; one was an Elementary School Principal in Smyrna.
