Deputies responded to a stabbing call Monday on Mills Street in Roanoke Rapids. They say an investigation revealed that 72-year-old Lorraine Shearin stabbed her son, 47-year-old Dennis Melvin Shearin, in the leg.
Authorities say the two were involved in a verbal altercation when it turned physical. Lorraine and her son were taken to the hospital and treated for injuries.
After they were released, deputies arrested and charged Lorraine with assault with a deadly weapon and placed her under a $500 bond . Dennis was charged with assault on a female and placed under a $1,000 bond.
Both are scheduled to appear in court on September 19.
