Teens arrested in connection with murder

DURHAM

Officers responded to a shooting call in the 2900 block of Chapel Hill Road just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they found two males shot.

Bernardo Ponce, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene and Antoney Garcia Dominguez, 40, was transported to Duke University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses told officers the suspects fled the scene in a red Toyota RAV4. Officers stopped a vehicle matching that description later that evening in the 2500 South Roxboro Street. Three males were inside.

Police arrested 18-year-old Deandre Roosevelt Rucker of Durham and a 15-year-old. Rucker is charged with murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon. He is being held in the Durham County Jail without bond.

The 15-year-old is being held at the Durham County Youth Home.

A third male fled the vehicle and has not been caught. Officers describe him as 5' 10" and in his late teen or early 20s. He has a light complexion and a "chunky" build. He may go by the nickname "D" and frequent the Southside neighborhood.
