Robbers smash into jewelry store

RALEIGH

It happened around 5 a.m. at the business on Brier Creek Parkway.

The impact shattered glass and battered a security gate, but the crooks didn't make it inside.

Now, investigators are comparing the case to a similar crime in Durham earlier that was successful.

Police say a white 2005 Dodge or Chrysler Caravan did the damage in Raleigh. They believe it has rear end damage because the crooks backed into the store. There were two suspects inside.

Durham police say they're investigating a similar robbery where a vehicle knocked out a window at a Rent-A-Center on University Drive around 4:40 a.m.

The crooks got away with TV sets there.
