Sex sting catches Sampson youth minister

GREENSBORO

Thomas Elliott, 40, was arrested in Greensboro Thursday.

The Guilford County Sheriff's Office says Elliot drove over a 100 miles from Roseboro to see the teen that he met online. The teen was actually an undercover officer.

Elliott is a youth minister at Autryville Baptist Church in Roseboro. He's also an announcer for the local high school football team.

Church members ABC11 spoke with Friday didn't want to talk about the arrest. The senior church pastor did not return phone calls.

Elliott was a youth minister at Evergreen Baptist Church before heading to Autryville.

The pastor there says he worked as a volunteer and left for a paid position. But when asked if there were any problems with Elliott in the church, he said Elliott was not a member of his church and he had no desire to make any comments.

Elliot is charged with soliciting a minor over the internet for a sexual act.
