Troopers say the driver of the car went off the road to the left and hit a culvert.
The car then overturned in a ditch.
Victoria Clayton, 16, of Roxboro, was killed in the crash. Troopers say she was the center-rear passenger, and was not wearing her seat belt.
Names of the other four people in the car have not yet been released.
The Highway Patrol says both speed and alcohol appear to have been factors in the crash.
