University banning students from local bar

FAYETTEVILLE Izzy's Sports Bar is now off limits after a shooting there last weekend left two Methodist students hurt.

But, the announcement has created outrage within the student body and a member of the student court.

"This is about students' rights to go where they want to go off campus. Student Court Chief Justice Zachary Rivenbark said. "Methodist University is not liable for students once they go off campus. And they cannot restrict students once they are off campus.

Rivenbark says legal action against the university is a possibility.

However, school officials are not backing down saying, "the administration takes very seriously the fact that two MU students and a relative of a student were the victims of this altercation."

The original policy that was distributed to students has been amended to remove the 200-foot perimeter surrounding the establishment, however, Izzy's Sports Bar will remain off-limits to Methodist University students until further notice.
