Police: Hit-and-run wasn't

RALEIGH

Raleigh police spokesperson Jim Sughrue said Sunday evening that investigators now believe that 41-year-old Richard Christopher Maher was lying in the road when he was hit by a car, and that there was not another car that hit him first.

Sughrue said Maher was in the southbound lanes of Capital near I-440 around 3:45 a.m. when he was struck. It's not known what he was doing there.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact Raleigh CrimeStoppers at (919) 834-HELP.
