Wayne Co. inmates escape, are re-captured

GOLDSBORO, N.C. Sheriff's officials say Tracey Deaver and David Menard rigged their cell door so it would appear to be shut, then attacked Detention Officer Albert Anders while he was on routine guard duty.

The inmates then allegedly locked him in their cell, stole his keys and radio, and used them to escape.

Officials say other inmates then made enough noise to attract the attention of nearby guards, who alerted Goldsboro Police, the N.C. Highway Patrol, and Wayne County Sheriff's deputies.

The inmates were located a few blocks away, and were apprehended.

Officer Anders was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital, treated, and released.

Minard is currently being held on assault by strangulation, second degree kidnapping, assault on a female, and communicating threats charges.

Deaver is being held on statutory rape (3 counts), felony larceny, and injury to personal property charges.

The inmates now face additional charges.
