McElroy was a close friend and a teacher at the high school Edwards' children attended and Bergenfield was one of Edwards' classmates in law school.
A service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh. It's the same church that Edwards turned to after losing her 16-year-old son Wade to a car crash in 1996.
The service is open to the public while the burial will be private. Edwards died Tuesday, six years after she was first diagnosed with cancer.
