Fayetteville officer cleared in shooting

FAYETTEVILLE Officer David West was returned to regular patrol duties on December 13, after then District Attorney Ed Grannis found he acted properly when he shot Jamaal Johnson around 11 p.m. on August 23, 2010.

Johnson is alleged to have fired at the officer after being pulled over on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle.

That's when police say the officer fired back.

The State Bureau of Investigation probed the incident while the officer was on administrative leave, which is standard in officer-involved shootings.
