Students hurt in bus crash

DUPLIN COUNTY

It happened at Ralph Sutton Road at Buckhill/Tram Roads around 7:15 a.m.

There were a total of 25 students headed to North Duplin Elementary School when investigators say the bus driver hit a ditch, causing the bus to turn over.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.

According to Trooper J.M. Gurganus, School Bus #130 entered a curve going to the left. The driver ended up going to the right, hitting the ditch, and causing the bus to turn over.

Garganus said an on-board camera showed driver Tina Andrews turning around in her seat to ask students if she was going the right way.

Andrews is charged with failure to maintain lane control.

School officials described the injuries to Andrews and the students as non-serious. All have been released from the hospital.
