Sex offender arrested after being seen at school

CUMBERLAND COUNTY

Officers said Barraza, a registered sex offender, was seen on the campus of Cumberland Mills Elementary School between January 4, 2011 and January 31, 2011.

Barraza is monitored by an in-home GPS, and it showed him to have been on the campus.

Officers charged Barraza with 25 counts of “a sex offender on child premises.”

Barraza has also been charged for failing to register a change of address for a sex offender. His new address, 5161 Texas Circle, is within one thousand feet of a child care center, which is in violation of the conditions of his sex offender status, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Barraza was convicted in 2008 on two counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor.

He is currently being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $320,000 secured bond. Barraza was scheduled to make a first court appearance Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
