Another incident reported at Soles' home

WILMINGTON According to the Wilmington Star News, the incident started around 9 p.m. when 24-year-old Billie Jay Wright went to Soles' home on Canal Street.

Soles called police and told them someone was beating on his garage doors.

When authorities arrived, Wright ran into a nearby wooded area.

One officer involved in the chase fell and injured his shoulder. Other officers continued looking for Wright, who returned to Soles' home a second time and began beating on the door again.

The officers returned to the home and Wright again ran into the woods.

Wright soon returned to the home, where one officer was waiting. He said he heard screaming and cursing, and then saw Soles fire a gunshot.

Authorities say Wright ran for a third time and the officer chased him, but injured his knee.

They say Wright ran to Lake Tabor and went into the water. An officer followed Wright into the lake but lost him.

Soles has not given police any statements about Saturday night's events, which is not his first encounter with Wright.

In 2010, Soles was fined $1,000 over a 2009 incident involving Wright and another man Thomas Kyle Blackburn.

Authorities said Soles shot Blackburn after two intruders kicked in the front door. Blackburn - a former legal client of Soles - wasn't badly hurt.

Soles did not seek re-election last year to the General Assembly, where he was first elected in 1968.
