Mayor Charles Meeker delivered the State of the City address in the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts.
He told the audience the city is saving more than $200,000 per year in energy costs thanks to a partnership with Cree.
Meeker said the city's relationship with Cree, and NC State's college of design, vet school, and the Centennial Campus are part of what's held Raleigh's "world-class status."
The mayor also told the crowd, going forward, the city needs to improve affordable housing, transportation and greenway projects.
