Gusty winds, warm temps help fuel brush fires

RALEIGH Throughout the afternoon, small brush fires popped up in many areas.

The biggest was in Wake County, where about 8 to 10 acres burned in the Beaver Dam Recreation Area.

Crews had trouble accessing the fire because it was in a remote area, but they were able to get the fire out with no injuries.

Another small fire popped up along Interstate 40 near the Wade Avenue split.

Western Wake firefighters working on a fireworks exercise at the fairgrounds had to be diverted to the area to handle the flames.

It was knocked down within minutes.
