Man shot during traffic dispute

FAYETTEVILLE Police say just after 7:30 p.m., officers were called when a man was taken to Highsmith Rainey Express Care after being shot.

They later learned that 25-year-old David Ayers was shot in the parking lot of Day/Night Tobacco on Ramsey Street.

Authorities say Ayers was pulling out onto Ramsey Street when an argument ensued with another driver in a champagne colored 4-door Saturn with tinted windows.

It is unclear what the argument was about, but officials say the suspect -- an African American man standing 5' 9" to 5'10" with braided dreadlocks pulled into a ponytail -- got out of his car and fired a handgun at Ayers' vehicle.

Ayers suffered some minor injuries and a passenger inside his car was also grazed by a bullet.

The incident is currently under investigation.
