Investigators said 34-year-old Johnny Woodard III was an acquaintance of the alleged victim's family.
He's charged with statutory sex offense of a child less than 13 and attempted first-degree statutory rape.
Woodard, of Florida Street in Goldsboro, was placed in the Wayne County jail with a half-million dollar bond.
