Governor Perdue shakes up top staff

RALEIGH

ABC11 has confirmed that Communications Director Chrissy Pearson is leaving for a post at another state agency.

Juleigh Sitton, director of the Governor's Western Office, reportedly resigned last week.

Contacted by ABC11 Tuesday, Sitton had no comment.

Lawmakers made Perdue trim her expenses by 23 percent or about $1.4 million in the new budget and she has recently let other staffers go.

Pearson has helped Perdue shape her public message since she took office. She began as press secretary and stepped up to the job of Communications Director when David Kochman resigned in 2009. Since then, she's been Perdue's most visible spokesperson.

Prior to working in the governor's office, Pearson was communications director to then Lt. Gov. Perdue, She also worked for eight years for the Department of Insurance.

Perdue said Tuesday Pearson will join the newly created North Carolina Department of Public Safety as Senior Adviser to the Secretary. Pearson will begin the new position on Sept. 6.
