UNC fullback Ramsay out for season

CHAPEL HILL

Senior fullback Devon Ramsay will have surgery next week after tearing the ACL and MCL in his left knee in Saturday's 42-10 victory over James Madison.

Ramsay, a native of Red Bank, N.J., started last week and had an 18-yard reception.

The University of North Carolina said it plans to pursue a sixth-year of eligibility with the NCAA for Ramsay, who redshirted in 2007 with a shoulder injury.

Last November, Ramsay was ruled permanently ineligible by the NCAA following an agent-related benefits and academic misconduct investigation.

The NCAA later determined that no violation had occurred involving Ramsay and he was able to return to competition.

He had played in the first four games of the season before being withheld.
