Reward offered in Fuquay-Varina death

FUQUAY-VARINA

A passerby found the body of 41-year-old Sandra Denise Thomas face down in a ditch March 29 on Lawrence Street between Jones and Holland Glen streets.

A medical examiner's report said the official cause of death is undetermined, but Thomas could have bled to death or asphyxiated.

In a news release Thursday, Fuquay-Varina police said Thomas was not "shot, stabbed, or strangled and she did not have any broken bones. Physical evidence suggests the possibility of some type of altercation involving Ms. Thomas and that she may have been trying to get in or out of a car or truck as it was moving. Existing evidence does not confirm that she was hit or run over by a motor vehicle."

They said it's not clear if Thomas' death was an accident or intentional.

Detectives said they need more information on Thomas' final hours between 2:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29. They also would like to speak to anyone who had any contact with Thomas on the night of March 28 or the morning of March 29,

"Ms. Thomas leaves behind a young son and family that loved her very much and miss her every day. Her family needs to know what happened to her to bring about some type of closure to this tragic event," said a spokesperson.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fuquay-Varina Police Department at (919) 552-3191 or Investigator Wenhart at (919) 753-1006.
