Fire in Fayetteville school

FAYETTEVILLE

About 500 students who attend the pre-school through twelfth grade school were taken to a nearby football field. No students were hurt. Officials said recent fire drills helped the evacuation go smoothly.

Parents were being told they could pick up their children at Tamarack Drive and Rosehill Road. Drivers should approach that location via Ramsey Street and Stacey Weaver Drive to avoid traffic backup.

Officials said it appeared to be an electrical fire that began in the roof. The flames were quickly extinguished, but firefighters were checking attic spaces to make sure the fire had not spread.

There was no immediate word on the amount of damage.
