Spiderman with sword no match for store clerk

JACKSONVILLE, NC

Detectives say around 1:30 Wednesday morning, a man wearing a Spider Man mask and carrying a sword walked into a convenience store on Wilmington Highway.

The man allegedly stuck his sword in the store clerk's face and said "Give me your money and I will not hurt you."

Instead of giving up the store's cash, deputies say the clerk shoved the handle of her broom hard into the man's belly.

Another clerk joined in and they tried to overpower the robber, but he was able to get free and run. But not before his mask was ripped off and part of his ponytail torn off.

Deputies arrived and arrested 56-year-old Dale Foughty at a nearby home. They said he'd shaved his head and his hair was all over a table in the living room. He was also noticeably sore from his encounter with the clerks.

He's now charged with attempted armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and injury to personal property.

Bond was set at $100,000.
