NC's Emergency Operations Center gets major upgrade

RALEIGH

The new building, which also serves as the headquarters for the state's National Guard, was dedicated Friday. It includes a new dispatch center for the State Highway Patrol, a new situation room for Emergency Management, and a new operations center for the Department of Transportation.

There's also space for other state and federal officials, including the governor and Homeland Security.

"The old place, we outgrew to be honest with you. Built in 1965, we had long since outgrown it to be honest with you," said N.C. Emergency Management Director Doug Hoell.

The project was funded by a combination of state and federal funds.
