It happened around 9:40 a.m. on Highway 258 south of Kinston.
The trucks burst into flames following the impact and the driver of the second truck was killed.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
The dead driver's name was not released pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the second truck was not injured.
