Students disciplined following after-school fight

FAYETTEVILLE

People said the fight, which took place Monday inside a McDonalds across from 71st High, was gang related.

The confrontations began when two people, a man and a woman, attacked a man who was at the counter of the restaurant. The male suspect started punching and the female jumped in and knocked the victim to the ground. The victim got up and seemed to be okay.

However, the melee didn't end there. Multiple retaliation fights broke out Tuesday in the parking lot across from the high school. One man was beaten down to the ground and stomped.

The principal at 71st High School, Dr. Vanessa Alford told ABC11 that she reviewed the video and has disciplined about a half dozen students.

Alford said not all the people involved in the fight were 71st students. She said they were students from other schools and others from the community.

Alford said the school inherits the problems students bring with them from their neighborhoods.

For the past two days, the school has taken extra precautions to keep students safe on campus.
