Police said the shooting happened after 3 a.m. on Massey Avenue, between Fayetteville and Merrick Streets. The victim was shot in the neck while sitting inside his car.
The injured man managed to drive a few blocks down the street, near NCCU's campus, before collapsing in his car. That's where emergency responders found him.
The victim was taken to Duke Medical Center.
