It happened at Munns Road and U.S. Highway 15 between Butner and Creedmoor, in Granville County.
The victim, 71-year-old Linda Michalina, was found dead on the side of the road near her home.
Authorites tell ABC11 that she was hit by a car and the driver did not stop.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call police.
