It happened at the Novo Nordisk Pharmaceutical plant on Powhatan Road in Clayton just after 8:30 a.m.

According to Ken Inchausti with Novo Nordisk Pharmaceutical, a relatively small amount of hydrochloric acid was spilled in the back portion of one of their buildings.
The acid was contained with the help of the local fire department. No one was injured from the spill and no evacuations were issued.
An environmental contractor was also brought in to analyze the situation.
Hydrochloric acid is used in the company's wastewater management process. Novo Nordisk Pharmaceutical produces insulin at the Clayton facility.
