Police search for attempted robbery suspect

RALEIGH, N.C.

Police said a man tried to rob the Burger King on Hillsborough Street shortly before 10 p.m. on Aug. 22. The restaurant is located right across the street from Meredith University and just a few blocks from N.C. State's campus.

There were two Burger King employees in the building at the time of the attempted robbery. Officials said the suspect hit one of the employees with a handgun before firing at him.

The victim told ABC11 he thinks the would-be robber was hiding in the bathroom as the store was closing.

"When I come out to the office, I walking in the hall and the guy's coming outside to the bathroom and behind to me and just hit me with a gun in my head.  And I pushed the guy and I fight a little bit. 'Give me the money, give me the money.'   When I fall on the floor then shoot with the gun maybe half a meter with my person," the employee said.

The employee was not hit with gunfire in the altercation. The suspect then left the restaurant without robbing the store of any money.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male who stands about 6 feet 2 inches tall and has a very thin build. He was wearing the curly black wig at the time of the robbery, in addition to dark skinny jeans, black sneakers, and a white shirt under a black zip-up windbreaker jacket. He is believed to have fled the scene on a black bicycle.
