The North Carolina Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control are investigating an outbreak of meningitis involving patients who were treated with spinal steroid injections.

At least one person from North Carolina has contracted the illness. That victim remains in the hospital.

Eleven others, including two patients who died, have been identified from one clinic in Tennessee.

Right now, the preliminary investigation points to the medication that is causing the meningitis, but further investigation is underway.
