Unemployed still worried after fiscal cliff deal

RALEIGH

The president's signature on the deal means about 85,000 of North Carolina's unemployed will still be getting their benefits.

The Employment Security Commission has been flooded with phone calls from concerned people worried about coverage.

The first six months of unemployment benefits come from the state. Then, benefits switch over to the federal level for nearly a year.

The ESC says people should just apply for benefits as usual.
