DURHAM

The Durham Police Department said officers went to the house on Cecil Street last Friday after getting a call about an unknown problem. When they got there, officers reported the smell of marijuana.

Kimberly Jaye Allen, 41, and Darrell D. Thomas, 43, were charged with possession of a controlled substance, conspiracy to sell illegal drugs, and maintaining a dwelling for the sale of drugs.

According to Fayetteville Elementary's website, Allen is a third grade teacher. A spokesperson for Durham County Public Schools said she has been suspended from her job pending the outcome of the case.

She was hired in 1994.
