State Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Sgt. Jeff Gordon said Potts is resting comfortably at home with his family.
Meanwhile, search warrants were released Thursday in connection with the shooting of a Highway Patrol trooper in Durham Monday.
The warrants reveal that 21-year-old Lyndsey Smith picked up her boyfriend, Mikel Edward Brady II, shortly after he allegedly opened fired on Trooper Michael Potts along U.S. Highway 70 at Cheek Road near Interstate 85.
Authorities said Potts pulled over a newer model black Nissan with 30-day temporary license tags because the driver wasn't wearing a seatbelt. That's when the driver, believed to be Brady, allegedly opened fire.
Potts, 42, was shot four times and suffered wounds to each hand, his right shoulder, and the right side of his face.
Brady fled the scene. His Nissan was later found behind a Durham restaurant. Sources have told ABC11 that private surveillance video captured Smith picking up Brady in the parking lot where his car was later found abandoned.
Smith, who is seven months pregnant, has been charged with accessory after the fact in the case and harboring a fugitive, while Brady is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
On Thursday, a visibly upset Smith asked a judge to lower her $1.5 million bond to $750,000. The judge denied her request.
Smith was arrested Wednesday, the same day Brady appeared in court and was placed under an $8 million bond in connection with the shooting.
The couple is reportedly high school sweethearts from Vermont, where Brady is wanted on an absconder warrant.
"I believe he's on furlough on breaking and entering charges," Assistant District Attorney Brian Raymond Jones told the judge Wednesday. "He's also on federal probation, your Honor, I believe for charges of theft of explosives. He's convicted in 2011 of grand larceny."
The judge set Brady's bond for that fugitive charge at $2.5 million, but said Brady won't be extradited until the court deals with his charges related to Monday's shooting.
