Durham County deputy involved in crash

DURHAM

It happened just after 1 p.m. at Page Road and T.W. Alexander Drive as the deputy was responding to a call.

The deputy was traveling northbound on Page Road with his lights and sirens activated. Officials said he had a red light in his direction at the intersection, stopped, cleared the intersection and proceeded through.

However, when he entered the intersection, he was struck on the driver side by a vehicle traveling east on T.W. Alexander. That driver had the green light, but did not see the deputy in time to stop.

The other driver was transported to the hospital as a precaution to be checked out for a possible broken ankle.
