Just after 1:30 p.m. Sunday, the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said a family found what appeared to be human remains near a creek embankment close to the Hwy 561 railroad bridge.
It was later determined that the remains were human.
The case is currently under investigation.
Further details about the incident have not been released.
