DURHAM

A Durham County school board member confirms to ABC11 that Becoats is a finalist to head up Prince George's County Public Schools in Maryland .

Minnie Forte Brown said Becoats did not apply for the position, but was sought out. She added that Becoats called every Durham County school board member personally to inform them that he was contacted about the job.

According to reports, Prince George's County's current interim superintendent and a chief of schools who oversees dozens of public schools in Chicago are also in the running.

Becoats joined the Durham school system in 2010. During his short tenure, Becoats has touted several accomplishments within Durham Schools that includes a partnership with Durham CAN, which stands for Congregations, Associations, and Neighborhoods.
