Funeral services held for former Holly Springs town manager

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C.

Carl Dean died Thursday of an apparent heart attack.

Town officials say the 56 year old was taking part in an annual golf event when he collapsed.

Funeral services were held Sunday at Sunrise United Methodist Church.

Dean became Holly Springs town manager in April 2001 after serving for 12 years as city manager in Dunn. In June, Dean was slated to assume duties as president of the N.C. City and County Management Association.

Previously, he was an assistant county manager in Burke County in western North Carolina and was town manager in Clarksville, Va.
