Boy critically injured after being struck by car

RALEIGH, N.C.

Nine-year-old Richard Doyle was struck in the 5200 block of Kaplan Drive just after 3 p.m. Police told ABC11 72-year-old Joann Norwood, the victim's grandmother, was backing out of the garage at her Raleigh home when she hit the child.

Norwood is described by her neighbors as a kind, sweet woman who ran a daycare center at her home during the week.

The boy was taken to WakeMed, where he is listed in critical condition.

The police report shows the car was going 3 mph when the child was hit. Charges are not expected to be filed.
