Deputies searching for 2 suspects following chase and lockdown

RALEIGH

Deputies searched the store at the intersection of New Bern Avenue and New Hope Road after four suspects wrecked a stolen car and ran.

Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said the incident started around 6 p.m. when one of his deputies spotted a black Hyundai driving erratically on New Hope Road.

"Matter fact it even ran up on the sidewalk area," said Harrison. "He cut the lights on and tried to get it to stop and they just looked at him and kept going at a low rate of speed."

As the car approached an intersection, all four teens inside jumped out, which sent the unoccupied vehicle plowing head-on into an eastbound driver on New Bern Avenue. The driver was not hurt.

"We've caught two of them," said Harrison. "We've got the driver and one of the passengers. I believe the right front seat passenger."

Eyewitnesses thought they saw a female suspect run into the nearby Walmart, but a search from the air and on the ground turned up nothing. The store was evacuated as a precaution.

"He pulled out like an M16 and he was like, 'Everybody shut up and run' and I was like what do you mean run. I'm not leaving my sister behind," said eyewitness Ruben Matos.

Matos recorded the situation on his smart phone as he searched for his sister. He and others feared the worst.

"It was loud as hell," said Matos. "That's when everybody was screaming."

"People just started running and screaming," said eyewitness Monique Lyles.

"Yes. It was like Black Friday," said eyewitness Michele Peebles.

The car the suspects were riding in was reported stolen in Raleigh two days ago.

Two suspects at still large. One is described as a heavyset African-American teenage girl, who was last seen wearing khaki capris, a dark colored shirt, and a Chicago Bulls cap. A description of the suspect has not been released.
