Former NC Rep. LaRoque found guilty on federal charges

GREENVILLE

WCTI12.com reports a jury at the Federal Courthouse in Greenville found former Rep. Stephen LaRoque guilty on all 12 federal charges against him, including money laundering, theft, giving false information to the federal government, and filing false tax returns.

LaRoque reportedly took $300,000 loaned to his nonprofit company through a federal program and giving it to another company he owned to pay for transactions that helped family members.

An indictment contended LaRoque also had transferred funds between the companies to ultimately pay for personal items, including jewelry and Faberge eggs.

LaRoque is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 10.
