Just after 8:30 a.m., Raleigh fire fighters and EMS crews were called to help deliver the baby on Interstate 440 near Lassiter Mill Road.
By the time emergency personnel arrived, the baby had already been born in the family's mini-van.
The mother and baby were taken by EMS to Rex Hospital, while the father followed behind to join his family.
