The North Carolina Highway Patrol says it has placed a Nash County trooper on administrative duty pending an internal investigation.

The move came after Sergeant Timothy R. Askew, 44, was charged with assault after an alleged domestic dispute at his home June 17.

According to a domestic violence report from the Nash County Sheriff's Office, Askew's wife alleged he began yelling at her because she hadn't washed his clothes. The woman said the trooper shoved her to the ground during the argument.

Askew is an 8-year veteran of the Highway Patrol and is assigned to the Troop C District 9, Motor Carrier Enforcement Section based out of Raleigh.
