It happened around 11 P.M. Saturday night on Long Leaf Drive in Seven Lakes.
Authorities said the vehicle went off the road and struck a tree.
The driver, 48-year-old Ernest Ray Barber Junior was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 25 year-old Bryan Scarlett was taken to the hospital.
Investigators said neither of the men was wearing seatbelts. Speed was also a factor in accident.
Long Leaf Drive was closed for more than three hours.
