Deputies got a 911 call about the incident Monday evening.
They didn't say where it happened, or if the child is a boy or a girl.
The child was taken to a Moore Regional Hospital, and then transferred to Chapel Hill for further investigation.
So far, no one has been arrested in connection with the crime.
