Survey shows same-sex marriage favored by majority

WASHINGTON

The USA Today survey was conducted just four days after the U.S. Supreme Court decided in favor of the government providing same-sex couples the same benefits as their counterparts.

According to the poll, 48 percent of Americans supported the ruling, and 43 percent opposed.

The only major groups in the USA Today poll where a majority opposed same-sex marriage are Republicans, at 68 percent, and those 65 and older, at 51 percent.
