It happened at a home on Fulton Court. Chad Horne said he had just let the pit bull out of his house and into a fenced in area of the backyard when he heard a gunshot.
"There was blood everywhere. Even in my room, on my bed, and stuff like that. Because she ran back in the house after she got shot," said Horne.
A bullet went through the animal's jaw.
Police told ABC11 they were forced to shoot when two officers went to the Fulton Court area for a follow-up on an investigation and the dog got through an opening in the fence. Police said the animal was aggressive and bit one officer on the foot and charged at another. That's when an officer fired his gun.
The SBI and animal control spent several hours at the home. Police say there will be an internal investigation.
The pit bull was checked out by a veterinarian and has been returned home. The officer involved in the shooting was not seriously injured.
