Food drive for furloughed Fort Bragg workers

A union that represents civilian workers at Fort Bragg held a mobile food pantry event in Fayetteville Thursday for families hit hard by the federal furloughs brought on by sequestration.

Organizers with AFGE Local 1770 said about 20,000 pounds of food was provided - enough to feed 600 families.

Organizers said it's a huge misconception that civil service always means a person has a good paying job.

"We've got people that actually - they cut grass for a living - that make just right above $20,000 a year. So when we talk about paycheck to paycheck, we do have a group of folks that are very low middle class if you want even define it at as middle class," said an organizer.
